A Tribute to Lorne from Angel!
It has been nearly three months since actor Andy Hallett, whom we remember as Lorne (aka “The Host”), from our favorite series Angel, breathed his last. This 33 year old young actor had been fighting a losing battle with heart disease for the past five years, before he succumbed to his illness towards the end of March, 2009. His untimely death has definitely created a void in the industry that is difficult to fill.
This talented actor, who portrayed the character of a demon in Angel TV show, was known to have provided a reasonable amount of humorous and musical break to the show. He joined the show as a side-character, but as the show progressed so did his appearances, till he became the heart of Angel. Despite being surrounded by darkness, Lorne was nearly always optimistic and was often seen counseling the other characters. In addition, he came across a compassionate and sympathetic demon who wore his heart on his sleeve.
Even though Angel TV show lasted for three seasons only, but Hallet managed to lay a lasting imprint in the hearts of millions of people, who found his character in Angel adorable and loving, despite its being a demon. Hallett portrayed the character of Lorne with so much kindness and compassion that it soon became a beloved character. It was only due to the sheer talent and conviction of Hallett, that he was able to change the viewpoint of people about demons, giving them a more humane look.
Even though, Angel had stopped airing many years before his death, Hallet was still recognized as Lorne. The fact that he is no longer amongst us has made his memory even more everlasting. It is difficult to imagine how Angel would have turned out, had Hallet not been a part of it. His death has immortalized the series as whenever Hallet is remembered, you will find a reference to Angel!
